The psychologists and consultants at Meers Inc. are aware of the many facets and the complexities related to adoption. Our staff offer psychological counseling and consultation services regarding all aspects of the adoption process. We serve all parties that might be involved, including: adult adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents, siblings, and other family members.
In view of the New Adoption Law in Ohio that took effect on March 20, 2015, we are particularly well-suited to assist adult adoptees in the decision-making process as to whether to obtain the open birth records and initiate a search for one or more birth parents. If a search is initiated, we offer support and guidance during the search time period and we are available to facilitate intermediary services related to the potential reunion of the adoptee and the birth parent (and related family members and significant others). We hope to help prepare the parties for the reunion meeting by examining hopes, expectations, and potential outcomes. We meet with adult adoptees and we meet with birth parents individually. If requested, as intermediaries, we can facilitate a meeting between the parties.
We believe that the decision to search for, and rejoin with, a birth parent is a very serious and emotionally-laden process, and the outcomes are likely to be life-changing. The experienced mental health and family experts at Meers Inc. Consulting Psychologists assist to increase the likelihood that there will be good and positive outcomes for all parties.
